For whatever the reasons, this is just too much! Nature left on its own makes a perfect shaped oak tree that we can wonder at and admire. What romance!
Our native oak can take 500 years or more to grow as large as it can, and then 300 years to die. So if you see along a country lane or in a meadow a massive old oak dying back naturally but looking grand, it was probably young in 1400 or 1500. Some have trunks that are 12 feet in diameter! Stop, look and hug!
Happy New Year!
